Your Support Means Life Saving Heartworm Treatment For 4 Dogs
We recently took in 4 dogs that are all heartworm positive. Treatment for heartworm is hard, sometimes dangerous for the dog, and very expensive. This is why veterinarians are so adamant about yearly testing and administration of preventative compounds. Early diagnosis is important; the earlier heartworm is detected, the better the chances for recovery.
Dogs at animal controls that are heartworm positive are either passed over by rescues because the treatment is so time consuming and costly, or they are euthanized because the facility does not have the resources to support the treatment.
The thought of 4 amazing dogs losing their life due to no fault of their own did not sit well with us. And it didn't sit well with the selfless fosters who stepped up to care for these dogs and nurse them during this treacherous treatment.
